Trip to Monasteries !!

On the first Sunday, we set out to see the monasteries around Leh. The places were Thiksey, Shey palace, Stok. Thiskey is apparently the largest monastery and is very ancient in its origin. We hired a Qualis with Imtiaz Bhai and set out to hit the places.

We have to cross the Indus river which was not quite at its peak, but beautiful nevertheless.

Shey Palace: This was home to the first king of Leh – Lanchen Paigyigon in 1600 A.D. It houses a splendid statue of Lord Buddha of a height of 3 stories. There is a stunning view from the palace.

Thiksey Monastry: This monastry is situated on top of a hill and again like any other place in Ladakh offers a splendid view of the town below and the mountains around it. An ancient shrine built by Rinchen Tsangpo himself is beside it, however is in ruins now. As usual we clicked a zillion pics here too.
